- Karl Gotch (Born Charles Istaz) is a German professional wrestler with a background in Amateur Wrestling. - He represented Belgium in the 1948 Summer Olympics. - Gotch also trained in Pehelwani, The Indian style of Wrestling and incorporated indian style training into his regime. - Gotchs professional wrestling career began at the Snake Pit Gym under Billy Riley. - He toured Germany under the ring name Karl Krauser and won the German Heavyweight Championship and European Championship. - He started wrestling with the ring name Karl Gotch in the USA and won the AWA Heavyweight Championship in 1961. - Other titles Karl won include WWWF Tag Team Championship, IWA Heavyweight Championship. - Karl started working in Japan in the year 1962 and wrestled in the first main event of the New Japan Professional Wrestling, which he won against Antonio Inoki. - Karl later worked as a trainer and promoter at the NJPW. - Karl died on 28 July 2007 at the age of 82. - He has also achieved various honours such as being inducted in the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame, Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame, Lou Thesz Hall of Fame etc. |
