- Sarona Reiher is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer James Reiher Snuka, better known as ’Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka. Her elder brother, James Jr, also wrestled for WWE under the names Deuce and Sim Snuka. She is also related by marriage to the famous Anoai wrestling dynasty.
- Sarona did not follow her father and brother into the business until the age of 30, when she was awarded the Lia Maivia Scholarship to fund her training at the school operated by the Wild Samoans, Afa and Sika. By this point, she was a divorced mother of two daughters and had been working as a janitor. She made her wrestling debut in September 2009 for Afa’s World Xtreme Wrestling promotion under the name Sarona Snuka, and later reached the final of its Women’s Elite 8 Tournament, where she lost to Betsy Ruth.
- In December of 2009 WWE signed Sarona to a developmental deal, and she reported to its Florida Championship Wrestling territory, where she debuted in March using the ring name Tamina (later lengthened to Tamina Snuka). In May she made her main roster debut on the Raw brand as part of a heel group alongside The Usos. The trio feuded with the Hart Dynasty of Tyson Kidd, David Hart Smith and Natalya, including in a six-person tag team match at the Fatal 4-Way pay-per-view in June where the Harts were victorious. Tamina turned face in November when she became the on-screen love interest of Santino Marella.
- After being drafted to Smackdown in early 2011, Tamina appeared on both Smackdown and NXT Redemption throughout the next year. She had her first singles match on pay-per-view at Elimination Chamber in February 2012, losing to champion Beth Phoenix in a WWE Divas Title match. After suffering a back injury in September, she returned at the Survivor Series two months later, when she attacked AJ Lee at the behest of Raw General Manager Vickie Guerrero, leading to a match between the Tamina and AJ on Raw, where AJ was victorious.
- After another short absence from television during the summer of 2013, Tamina returned in September and became the tag team partner and ’protector’ of her former rival AJ, helping her hold onto the Divas title on numerous occasions. After AJ’s reign was finally ended by Paige in April, following which AJ disappeared from television, Tamina became the new champion’s first challenger at Extreme Rules in May, but was unsuccessful. In June she underwent knee surgery following a torn ACL, keeping her out of action into 2015.
- She returned in May and aligned herself with Naomi. The pair were joined a few months later by Sasha Banks, forming a trio known as Team BAD (Beautiful And Dangerous).
- In 2014 she made her acting debut with a supporting role in ’Hercules,’ which starred her cousin, former WWE champion turned Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson. |
