- Pamela Martinez received her wrestling training at the school of the Big Time Wrestling promotion near her home in northern California. She had attended BTW shows as a fan since the age of 11. She made her wrestling debut for the promotion aged 18 in September 2008, using the ring name Davina Rose. She continued to wrestle regularly for BTW over the next four years, and was also a regular for Championship Wrestling from Hollywood
- In October 2011, Davina Rose made her debut for SHIMMER: Women Athletes at the Volumes 41-44 tapings, appearing as an ally of her real-life friend and mentor Serena Deeb, who she had met when they teamed together at a BTW show in 2010. She went on to appear at three sets of tapings across the following year, and also wrestled at the 4th SHINE show in October 2012.
- in December 2012, Martinez was signed to a WWE developmental contract. She made her debut for their NWA SAW territory in January 2013 at a house show, wearing a mask under the name Luchadora. From her second appearance onwards, she wrestled unmasked as Bayley
- After debuting on NXT television later in the year, Bayley was soon given the gimmick of an excitable wrestling fangirl who was fond of giving hugs to the subjects of her adulation. in September 2013 she formed an alliance with Charlotte, which came to an end two months later when Charlotte turned heel and joined forces with Summer Rae and Sasha Banks to form the BFFs. The rivalry renewed in September of the following year when Bayley unsuccessfully challenged Charlotte for her NXT Women’s Title at the NXT TakeOver: Fatal 4 Way special, after which the pair began to develop respect and admiration for each other once again.
- Bayley eventually captured her first Women’s title when she defeated Sasha at the Takeover: Brooklyn event in August 2015. She retained the title against the same opponent two months later in the WWE’s first Ironman match between female competitors, which headlined the Takeover: Respect card. |
