- Natalie Nelson was raised in Concord, California. She is of Mexican and Italian descent. She attended California State University, Fullerton, attaining a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management as well as playing for the university soccer team. After college she moved to Hollywood to seek work as an actress and model, appearing on several magazine covers and having background roles in television shows such as ’Entourage’ and ’CSI: New York.’
- In early 2013 she entered the wrestling world when she was signed to a developmental deal by WWE and reported to the company’s Performance Center in Florida. She was given the ring name Eva Marie, having been known as Natalie Eva Marie during her modelling career.
- Along with fellow upstart JoJo, Eva was selected as one of the two ’newbies’ who would appear alongside WWE’s established female talent in the E! network reality series ’Total Divas,’ which premiered in July 2013. Unusually, to promote her role on the E! show, she regularly appeared on main roster television while still undergoing the early stages of her training. One of the first of her first appearances saw her slap announcer Jerry Lawler during an interview.
- Initially appearing only in a non-wrestling capacity, her first ever televised match occurred live on Monday Night Raw in October in a six-woman tag team match. She made her pay-per-view wrestling debut at Survivor Series in November, as part of the ’Total Divas’ team that prevailed over AJ Lee’s ’True Divas’ team in a 7-on-7 elimination match, and was victorious again in the rematch the following night on Raw.
- During 2014 she began to compete regularly on the main roster, establishing herself as a heel, and was part of the 14-Diva ’Vickie Guerrero Invitational’ match for AJ’s Divas title at Wrestlemania 30. After being absent from the ring for the early part of 2015 while she recovered from an injury and underwent training with former WWE wrestler Brian Kendrick, Eva began competing regularly in WWE’s developmental brand NXT in June, working as a heel.
- On August 23 2014 she married her fiancee Jonathan Coyle. Their relationship has featured prominently on ’Total Divas.’ |
